So has anyone cut their own soapstone countertops?

kam76February 7, 2013

I saw a video on how to do it on U-tube and it seems fairly straightforward. DH is super handy and has all the right materials already. It looks like it might be feasible but I'd be interested to hear from someone who has actually done it. Is it worth trying if you don't have a lot of cut outs i.e. a range not cooktop, an apron front sink? Anything to take into consideration? I can get the soapstone for $22.50 a sq. foot (does this sound like a reasonable price) and would have it cut to counter top width pieces which I am sure will cost some $$.

Yes, should be a fun project. Here is a link to a thread of many DIY soapstone counter owners.

Yes, that is a pretty good price for soapstone. I got mine from M. Teixeira. It was normally $30/sq. ft., but I got it on super-duper sale for $15. However, it was nearly $10/sq. ft. to ship it. Is your price delivered?

And by all means, visit the link that enduring posted!
