Sad A-Frame Needs Your Paint Advice!

ladyinthewoodsJune 27, 2011

My large, expanded a-frame is in dire need of new paint. The current all-over dark-mud brown is just pathetic. It has cedar lap-siding, enormous ground-to-peak windows, and a ton of wrap-around decking. Fixed features: woods setting; some stonework in the garden and acreage and along the drive; asphalt roof shingles of rust, black, brown, flecks of grey.

I'm having trouble finding the perfect color for the house. Thus far, I like:

SW Pine Cone for the major trim

SW Roycroft Copper Red for the accents, front door, and a bit around each window

As for the house itself, I've tried (all SW):

Buckthorn (shows up like Martha Stewart sage);

Toasty (shows up peach);

SandCastle (washes out);

Weathered Shingle (nice but too cool);

Desert Wood (warm but too light);

Antiquarian Brown (too orangey-bright);

Roycroft Pewter (turns frighteningly blue);

and Summit Grey (too light and silver blue).

Does anyone have any ideas of a dark tan/beige that does not reflect red/pink or orange/peach -- OR -- a dark olive green that doesn't wash out in the sunlight -- OR a true grey that doesn't show up as blue? (I'm quite willing to change out the Pine Cone on the trim if necessary, but am in love with the R. Copper Red).

My sad house and I thank you in advance!
