Ceiling Tile Grid

andrelaplume2March 28, 2013

My wife has a beauty shop 17 years old and its time to change the 2 x 4 tiles since they are dirty. I think its easier just to replace them rather than paint them. The issue is the grids have yellowed. We could:

1) Leave them be
2) Paint them

If we choose to paint them, it seams simple enough to wipe them down and roll them with a 3â roller. I few go this route, is there a particular type of paint that would work bestâ¦oil, latex, interior, exterior, rustoleum etcâ¦?

Would it be better to use cans of spray paint and spay them? Again, what type of paint?

**Either way we have good ventilation while we are working. There is about 300 sq ft of grid to paint and tile to replace.

I wouldn't spray it - the grid is too narrow - lots of overspray and paint in the air - that will settle on everything in the store.

I'd use an solvent based (oil based) enamel, with a little sponge roller.

I would use some high quality 100 percent acrylic paint in satin sheen. Be sure to sand them first.

probably need to prime them first if they were factory finished in oil
