Help! Should I change out my stainless steel apron sink?

rl430February 9, 2013

I purchased a 33" Kraus double bowl stainless steel sink based on good reviews and it was just installed 2 days ago. I love the look of it but am having serious second thoughts about maintenance. I'm just worried that the SS apron front will get scratched easily. We haven't even used it yet and I've already noticed a tiny ding at the top outside edge of the apron! (No idea how it got there.) The granite people are coming next week to template so I need to decide ASAP if I'm going to change it out for something else- fireclay or cast iron. (I know those come with their own set of challenges.) And I don't even know if it's possible at this point since our cabinet maker built the base cabinets around this sink. Those of you who have a SS apron sink- how is it holding up? Any regrets? (hobokenkitchen, firsthouse...if you're reading this, would love your input. i love both your kitchens!)
Thanks!

I have a single bowl SS apron front sink (36"). There are some minor scratches along the top after two years but it doesn't bother me. I use my kitchen hard and didn't have expectations of it staying pristine. When I shine it... it looks beautiful (I think!). Good luck!

I have a 33" Vigo ss apron sink. It's been installed for 8 months but we have only been in the house for 6 months. The outside of the sink looks as good as the day we got it. The inside does have scratches but that is to be expected. It is only dh and I, we don't have any children yet. I am pretty careful in the kitchen but Dh is not at all. I also found a thread in the metal working forum debating different ways of removing scratches from stainless steel. Of course everyone seemed to have a different opinion.

Here is a link that might be useful: Thread on removing scratches
