Outside lamp post

What type of paint, perhaps spray paint to use on outside black metal lamp post with a little rust. Thanks Volvo

The most important thing to is sand off the rust first. Then use a rust-proofing paint. You are lucky if it works more than a few years.
I wonder whether it would last better with a polyurethane finish coat. I would ask if one could do that.
