Painting a split level/open floor plan

michellemortSeptember 21, 2010

I'm trying to figure out what color I should paint my living room which shares a wall with the dining room. We have an open floor plan (split level) so when you are standing in the entry way you can see into the living room, kitchen and dining room. Years ago we put up chair rail in an attempt to divide the spaces. I painted the top part with a taupe/brown wall magic roller and the bottom was a tinted cream. Then many years later, I painted my kitchen/dining room a sunset orange. I am in love with the color and don't want to give it up. My problem is I just don't know what to paint the remaining walls. I painted one wall that is open on either side with the color "Hearth Rug" thinking I would paint the remaining walls this color but I hate it. I painted the chair rail the same color. (My thought is that I will pull all the chair rail off...)I just don't know what to do. Any help would be appreciated.
