moldings in old house kitchen

laurielou177August 19, 2011

We've removed cheap 80's mouldings from our kitchen which is being remodeled to look more 1920's. House is 1918. Did kitchen moldings copy those of rest of house (around doors and windows) or were they often simpler in this room?

Laurie, mine are the same as the rest of the downstairs--even in the pantry!

Mine are all simple, but they all match in every room and closets.

Door and window mouldings match thru out our 1830 house.
There are no ceiling mouldings in any of the rooms you would consider work, servant sleeping quarters, servant bath, servants stairwell or hallway.

laurielou, my 1929 english cottage has wide moldings in the public rooms, but no moldings at all in the kitchen.

Thanks. We've decided to match the kitchen mouldings w/rest of house. It was different w/prior owner's 1994 remodel, so that's why we didn't know what was in there before.
