For Alisande and others intrigued by late heiress Huguette Clark

pammyfayFebruary 4, 2013

The Washington Post Magazine ran a piece this weekend about a battle over her wills titled "Will the Corcoran Get the Monet?"

Interesting article. A few snippets about her life were a little more interesting to me than the overall museum fight, but still good reading.

It mentions a self-portrait she did; will have to go search the web to see if it's anywhere.

(And the article reminded me that there's still a book in the works by an NBC reporter with another person.)

OK! That didn't take long. Here's the self-portrait the article mentions, if you haven't seen it.

Interesting! Thanks, Pammyfay. She wasn't a bad artist! Re the jewelry, I wish they'd shown us that pink diamond. I don't know much about diamonds, so I looked up the D-color. Apparently it's the highest quality: colorless.

It's somewhat sad to see the photograph of those two pretty young girls in their big hats, with their father--no idea of what lay ahead for them. (As if any of us know that.)

Another interesting enigma is Hetty Green. I find myself reading and re-reading any articles I can find, thinking I just may find answers to many questions I keep asking myself.

Alisade, if you use this link you will find a great pic of the pink diamond ring. Click on the pic and a larger one opens. The writer said many people tried on that ring before the auction.

Oh, I am very intrigued by Ms. Clark's story.
So sad and amazing. There's so many unanswered questions.
Thanks for the links!

Nizza, thanks--that was a neat site! In addition to the great pictures of the jewelry, I learned that Huguette is buried at Woodlawn. That's where my mother, two of my grandparents, and some other relatives are buried. I own a plot there, but will probably never use it.

I'd love to see what else Huguette painted. I imagine she did quite a bit of it.

Now I want to read about Hetty Green. :-)

brought out my mother's ring to see the pink one (in the article) was a "rose cut", and they look the same...not as popular as some of the newer cuts, but still lovely...one of these days i'm going to have have hers appraised...
