Plaster wall texture and wallpaper removal

amy_awesomeAugust 25, 2009

Hi everyone -

I am the proud new owner of an 1865 home, which has lots and lots of wallpaper which I am now removing. It's my first experience with plaster walls, and I'm a bit nervous about what I'm finding underneath the paper now that I've started. The plaster almost looks "dotty", like it has itty-bitty holes in it. Is this normal? My first reaction was "OMG, I'm peeling off a paper layer that I'm not supposed to peel", but that layer feels gummy and gluey, so I am assuming it's the paper layer of the wallpaper, not some paper that's been put over the plaster. I have pictures if that helps - I am having a really difficult time describing the texture of the plaster I'm seeing:

Thanks in advance!
