Really need siding help 1885 house

bigds01July 23, 2012

So my house is a 1885 Shingle style home in New York. I want to reshingle because the ugly green paint.

I really need help.

I need to figure out what would be the correct siding for a shingle style in the northeast. Is it cedar? pine shakes? Do I leave them natural or can I have them sealed so they keep the wood look?

Thank you for reporting this comment. Undo

Cedar, but there are many different shingles available so you would need to determine what you have but in the Northeast Cedar is without a doubt the most popular and I would say 99% chance that they are Red Cedar as well if they are original to the house.
