help with hearth

newtomb1April 8, 2013

We are remodeling a house that had a mexican tile floor through the entire downstairs and on the hearth of the family room fireplace. We have put in new white oak floors and are the cabinets will be painted a creamy white.
I can't figure out what to put on this hearth. The mantle is some sort of concrete crafted to look like stone. I'd rather scrap the entire fireplace and start over but we need to move in very soon. We had considered reclaimed wood but it's a wood burning fireplace so that's not an option :(

Any suggestions would be appreciated!!

Full width stone in whatever color and finish is compatible with the simulated stone.

Stone (or stone-look porcelain) tile. You could do wood on the vertical surfaces and tile on the horizontal.
