Chef titles

From what I can tell Executive Chef and Chef De Cuisine are the same position, so why do people use different titles? Thanks.

I thought the Chef De Cuisine was the manager not the chef?

Maybe English and French versions of the same thing?

Well, a chef de cuisine is the head chef. The head of the kitchen. I din't understand what executive chef means. Does it mean executive cook? Still don't understand..... goes and stands in a corner.....

Chef de cuisine means head of the kitchen, executive chef is just a non French way of saying the same thing.
In a commercial kitchen, both do the ordering and planning as well as some or all of the cooking.
