Could anybody please explain the difference between hot wire triggers and cold wire triggers in MIG welders? Which is the preferred?

Since you are not getting any answerers I'll take a shot. With wire feeds, on the less expensive ones the wire is hot whenever the welder is on. The more expensive machines turn power on the wire only when the trigger is pressed. With a hot trigger you need to be much more careful of striking an unintended arc.
