metal countertop question

klromeMarch 28, 2010

We are remodeling our kitchen. One of the countertop materials will be honed Calacutta gold marble. I would like to use either zinc or pewter on other kitchen surfaces. My questions are these: What is the color/finish difference between zinc and pewter, both new and as they age. Which metal would look better with the Calacutta marble. We hope to use the same metal for our range hood.

We put in a combination of pewter and carrera marble countertops in our kitchen remodel this year. We put the pewter in the "wet" areas and marble on the island and the "dry" perimeter counters. The pewter has a warm look, which sounds funny for a metal, and looks less rustic than the zinc counters I've seen. Our marble has grey streaks which complement the pewter. We've had the pewter in for about six months, so perhaps that's not long enough to answer part of your question, but it's mellowing. We're very pleased.
