help with old chandelier

KitchenGodsWifeFebruary 5, 2005

This is not a metalworking question persay but since you are all metal experts I thought you might have some insight. I just bought a chandelier from the 1920's and it needs to be cleaned up, but I am unsure of what the metal is (it doesn't look like brass but rather some kind of base metal with a coating) and I'm not sure how to clean it. I will include a picture below, any help would be appreciated!

Check it with a magnet. If it is magnetic, you could be sure its not brass. I'm always afaid to put polish on something that has a coating. I dont know much about this kinda stuff, sorry. That is a really cool chandlelier :)
