Fig Crostata?

slowlaneAugust 16, 2013

I've been drooling over Ina Garten's Summer Fruit Crostata recipe, and then I thought about the fridge full of figs I'm trying to use up. Do you think they would work in that recipe? If so, what, if anything, would you do differently with the recipe besides swapping the fruit to figs?

Here is a link that might be useful: Summer Fruit Crostata

It sounds delicious. There's an apple crostata recipe on the same website. Perhaps follow those directions minus the spices - a drizzle of honey perhaps after baking?

Figs are sweet enough. I wouldn't add honey, I'd add Meyer lemon juice, IMHO.

One of our local restaurants used to do a wonderful starter: sliced prosciutto, grilled fig halves, fluffy fresh chevre popped atop the figs after grilling, to melt slightly. FABULOUS!

Yum! Both ideas sound great, and since the recipe makes pastry for two crostata (crostatas?), I'll try both ideas--one with a touch of honey, and one with a bit of lemon juice and maybe some bleu cheese.

Thanks to both of you :)
