Odd size shower in master bath

brnincalifJanuary 5, 2013

The next project slated for my house is the master bath.
I have been planning what I want to do and where to get everything but, I have one problem. The tub/shower is an odd size so I cannot just buy a new surround. Right now it is and oval tub/shower fiberglass with a surround. I would like to just make it a walk in shower. Not really sure about just ripping it out and doing tile. Might be above our skill level to make sure the base is done correctly and is waterproof. Has anyone else gone through this process yet? So many things in my house are odd sized and cannot just go the the home improvement store and find what I need. The countertop depth is too narrow for a standard sink, The door jambs are 3 inch not standard 4 inch and now this shower.

Brnincalif - We ran into the kitchen sink problem but found one (acrylic) with double bowls at Lowe's. I wish I had special ordered a single bowl, which I prefer, but we were in a hurry :-(. Anyway, there is only a small difference in depth but they can be found 'off the shelf'.

It's true, it can be a pain to change some things. Have you checked into a special order walk-in yet? I used an off the shelf sink in my small bath and replaced the vanity in the master bath. Had drain line issues in both baths but for different reasons. With the improvements you've already done I'm sure you can work this out. What you've shown us so far looks great!
