differences between Maytag epic 4.0 and Maytag epicz 3.7 cu foot

hmbjeffDecember 6, 2007

Maytag is now selling what looks like a higher-efficiency model of the EPIC series called the EPICz (for example the MHWZ600TW). These are tier3 (highest tier) efficiency washers with a 3.7 cu foot capacity, as opposed to the 4.0 cu foot models like the MFW9700SQ.

My question is, can anyone comment on the likely reliability of these models? Are they based on the same basic "platform" as the 4.0 cu foot 9700s? Or are they a new and unproven beast?

I am looking to purchase these washers for a shared laundry room in our "ecovillage", and they get approximately 10X the use of a normal home.

As a side note, amazingly, we have been using a set of Maytag Neptunes here for over 10 years, and they are still working (sort of). Go figure...

Any inputs appreciated.

The EpicZ is probably equivalent in the Maytag line-up to the full Epic, as the Duet Sport is in Whirlpool's line to the full Duet, and the HE2 in Kenmore's to the full HE5 (or whatever is the current number designation).
