LED bulbs in pendant lights

donnajillNovember 9, 2013

I recently purchased 3 mini pendants from a well known manufacturer, only to be told by my electrician and the retailer that they don't recommend putting LED bulbs in the pendants and that doing so will break the warranty. The only approved bulbs are incandescent, which will no longer be manufactured after 2013, and compact fluorescent, which don't work with a dimmer switch. What is the risk of putting the LED bulbs in anyway? What are other people doing?

To be sure, contact the manufacturer first. It is very unlikely that the fixture warranty would be adversely affected since LED lights do not output much heat or draw as much current as an incandescent.
