Chandelier sizing?

randall42October 16, 2012

I am looking to purchase the Restoration Hardware Rococo chandelier for my dining area. Here are my dimensions:

-Room is 13x10; 8' ceilings

-Table is 48" wide however i am thinking of replacing it in the near future with a 42"

The chandelier comes in two sizes:

Medium: 26" diamter X 25 1/2 height

Large: 30" diamter X 28" height

Please help me decide on the proper size!

I think the medium might be better. One rule of thumb is to take the length + the width of the room in feet and convert that to inches -- this gives you the general size of the chandelier. In your room that would be 23" -- so the 26" would be a better fit.

Also, if you do go with the 42" table, a 30" feature would come to within 6" of each side of the table. Even with a 48" table, it's within 9". That's pretty tight.

With the chandelier hung at 30" above the table (or at 5' off the floor), the smaller chandelier will be 10 1/2" off the ceiling; the larger will be 8" off.

Lovely chandelier!

I agree the medium size would be better with that room and new table combination. A 30" lamp is that big all around and is tall. It would tend to dominate the table.
