Confused about outdoor lighting

scooter010October 9, 2010

My basic need is an outdoor light fixture that will shine down on our house number at night. I would like a smallish wall lantern (maybe no more than 12" top to bottom) and a simple black metal house number that will be visible from the street. On at dusk, off at dawn would be best--no on/off switch.

Currently we have a 4" square lighted box that hasn't worked in years, even with a new bulb. I don't know if it's low voltage. Actually, I don't have a clue how it is powered and what type of replacement will work. I don't want to spend a fortune in rewiring if possible.

I have seen other homes with wall lanterns like this and I like the look. I have also seen some with round, recessed lights. There is about a 4" overhang so that idea is also possible.

Any help will be appreciated.

You could used a photocell outdoor light, and house numbers.
