Auto washers on cement floors?

love2sewNovember 23, 2010

This is my last question and I appreciate the help you provide here.

Is it bad for a washer to sit on a cement floor? My DH thinks the cement has contributed to rusting underneath the washer. I don't know...the dear old thing is 18yrs old so I think she is just like my old body, quite worn out. But seriously, would it be better to have carpet or flooring to seal off any dampness that may come through the cement. We don't have water seepage or flooding problems.

My new washer is a Kenmore FL worth $1200. so it better be good.

Many people have washers on cement floors with no problem -as long as they don't flood. Carpet or flooring may actually hold moisture under the machine. I think you have done well to get 18 years from the old girl - after all, she has been standing on hard cement all those years. She must be tired. Enjoy your new washer - hopefully you will do as well with the new one.
