Halogen Lamp - Does twice the wattage throw twice the heat?

I need a temporary light for a small kitchen. I bought a 250 watt work light but it's not bright enough even for a small kitchen. I'm surprised how much heat it throws. Would a 500 watt light be twice as hot? Thanks!

For an any given lamp technology. twice the power will mean twice the heat. The only way you can get more light with less heat is get more efficient with different type of lamp.
