Need advice for breakfast area/kitchen lights

downsouthAugust 7, 2009

Our plan is to install recessed lights in the kitchen. We want to put a tiffany style light in the breakfast room. We also want to add three down lights above the counter top that is open to the breakfast room. There is room for three bar stools which you can't see.

Since this is not a large area, would this be too many lights? We thought about a flush mount light for the breakfast room but the breakfast room is open to the great room.

Here's a picture looking from the kitchen to the breakfast area. The kitchen is going to be completely renovated once we move in.

Thanks, Dee

Can't look at your photos without a Shutterfly account, but as long as you have all of the lighting on dimmers, you'll be able to control the exact amount of light and it won't be too much. Just be sure to switch the three counter lights separately from the other downlights.

Consider the size of the open counter and use the approprite size. If a smaller area use 5" or 4". on large counters, a 6" will work. Try to have equal spacing and that should work fine. Always try to use a dimmer for recessed lights, wherever they are used.
