light fixtures and cabinet hardware

deickhoff0July 11, 2014

Should they be in the same color family? ie...oil rubbed bronze with like hardware......silver family with silver family hardware? Would it look odd to have a iron (silver family) cabinet hardware with bronze or oil rubbed bronze light fixtures?

Opinions?

I'm no decorator, but a friend of mine is, and she told me that "all my metals" should match.

Since then, in the rooms where I've been able to match all the hardware to light fixtures and other metal trim, I can see that she's right. It looks more coordinated that way.

The one exception is where (on my friend's advice) I have purchased or painted a ceiling fixture to match the ceiling so that it "disappears". Again, it looks better then before.

thanks. I'm thinking I will stay in the "silver" family. I'm not a lover of nickel, but antique pewter or just pewter might be an option for me.
