Fan and lighting for kids room

hehatemeJuly 18, 2011

Hi:

We have 8' ceilings in 3 of 4 bedrooms.

My son is 2 years old and he loves fans.

Right now his room has ceiling light with 3 60 Watt bulbs.

We want to add a fan to his room. We want to replace the light with a fan with light.

I have been told that I should get a hugger as my ceiling is low. Another thing I read was that fan plus light should not be more than 12 inches. Does this sound right?

Our goal is to get a simple fan with 100 Watts or higher lighting. It has been hard to find such fans because most of the hugger fans have 1-2 lights. If we try to add a light kit to the fan they are traditional looking.

Do you have any suggestions for us?

Should we just get a fan and add another kind of lighting in the room?

Should we just add a table fan? Having a table fan in a curious 2 year old boys room seems dangerous to me.

Thanks for any suggestion.

With CFLs or the Philips enduraLED (60W equivalent A lamp) you should be able to get quite a bit of light with 2 lights.

As for fans, the Dyson air multiplier is the safest (no exposed blades) and most novel fan (also most expensive) available today.
