Most low maintenance way to light a cupola?

mcfromctJune 20, 2013

We are finishing up construction on our new home and would love to install an ornamental cupola with a dim light inside. Since the roof is already on and house is sheetrocked, how would we go about doing this? What is the best option for low maintenance lighting? I read a little about fiberoptic and LED but it is definitely beyond my scope of understanding. Would an electrician even be willing to take on a job like this? It would require getting up on the roof of our attached garage. Where do we even start with an idea like this?

You probably don't need fiber optics.

When the cupola is constructed, just get the necessary conduit and wiring installed along with a small light. Alternatively, the light could be solar powered with a battery pack tucked inside.

Bear in mind that the cupola would have to be securely fastened to the roof deck and still maintain the integrity of the roof.
