Light question

nyc1216June 24, 2012

I am building a new home and trying to avoid recessed lights in the bedrooms. I am planning to do a fan with lights on it. Most of the fans with a globe don't give off enough light so I think I will have to do the ones with 3-4 lights in the middle. The bedrooms are about 12x14. I am also going to do night stand lamps. How much wattage would I need to light a room that size if using a ceiling fan with lamp?

~ 20 lumens per sq ft, the area will need 12 * 14 * 20 = 3360 lumens total.
If all the light is coming from the ceiling fan alone, and A19 60W equivalent bulbs are used (~ 800 to 900 lumens each), you need about 4.

Since the room is not that small, having night stand lamps would be very helpful. A standard A19 incandescent bulb provides between 800 - 900 lumens.
