vanity lighting

Hi. I'm hoping someone can help me with this question. I am installing a new vanity in my children's bathroom. It will be 2 sinks in the middle with a dressing/makeup area on either side for each girl. We are thinking of putting a shelf all the way across the whole vanity above the mirrors and having the light come through it. I was originally thinking of putting two sets of track lights installed on the underside of the shelf but in looking at the track lighting, I see that they all use halogen lights. I think that halogen lights are too hot and don't want to use them. Then I thought of can lights installed in the shelf. Would that work? Does anyone have any ideas? I don't really want to use traditional wall type bath bar lighting, especially since the space is very long, I thought that the track lighting would work better. Thanks.

Using track or recessed lighting from over your head in a baythroom will result in terrible lighting when using the mirror.
The very best lighting is to have 2 lights mounted 30"-36" apart with the outlet box mounted at 66"
If you have 2 sinks, and they are close togther so the lights are equidistant from the cente of the two mirrors, use a total of 3 fixtures.
But if the sinks are further than that apart, you should use 4 fixtures

Thanks for your response. Do you mean that the 2 lights should be mounted on the wall over the mirror? The two sinks are close together.
