Converting outdoor lights to motion sensitive?

blessedbeMay 5, 2009

I am a female living alone who has no electrical experience. I'm wondering if there's an easy way (i.e., not having to try and talk guy friends into doing it, or paying an electrician) to turn an existing porch ceiling light and back door flood light, into motion sensitive lights? Is there something I can screw them in to or clip on that will accomplish this? I've been doing research on the internet and can't really determine how feasible it is.

Thanks!

Kelle

This might be your best bet(may not be wet location listed though), short of hiring an electrician to install a new built-in motion sensor flood light:

Advantage Light Source makes a motion flood light that is battery operated and uses LEDs. The batteries last about a year. It is great to add without electricity. Just screw it up to the wall or overhang. It is rated for outdoors.
I recently had 6 installed for a lady that lives alone and wanted to light her stairs outside and the corner of her house. It is ample light to see to get in and out safely or alert if someone comes up. Very reasonable and requires no electricity.
