Stacked cabinet lighting?

bkatzApril 27, 2009

We are remodeling and will have stacked cabinets. The stacked cabinets will be small 12" cabinets and will have glass doors andthat will be on a 16foot run of wall of cabinets. What would you recommend to use for lighting inside these small cabinets?

The puck lights work great.(especially the recessed one if you can do that with your cabinet top. You might look into the new LED puck lights, they won't emit much heat in your cabinets.
Be careful to choose on that has a color temperature that matches the rest of the room. Maxim Lighting has some new ones. You can buy them as a 3 light kit and add-ons. 87883wt, or silver or black. Be sure to type maximlighting.com, these were introducted this year, they are very reasonable. You can buy them on-line several places or find them in a showroom near you.

Be careful with puck lights,as ,while they are inexpensive and easy to install, they provide no glare control.
Mounted in upper cabintes, they become "glare bombs" and detract for your dislay cabinets. In fact, as you're sitting down in your new kitchen, you will actually look up directly into the lamp.
You should consider some linear souce of lighting( Juno or Seagull "ambiance", etc) mounted vertically or horizontally between a small valence or door posts.

LED or xenon light strips mounted along the upper front inside edge of the cabinet is another option.

One I've used in the past is from WAC Lighting, called the "InvisiLED".
