questions about under kitchen cabinet lighting

ksd51April 19, 2009

My contractor is putting under cabinet lighting on one switch so that they all go on at the same time. Is this the way it is usually done? I quess I thought it was per counter. I never had under cabinet lighting before, so I am not sure how something like this goes. Also, he will be using xenon 20 watt bulbs. How many are typically used per cabinet? Thanks for your help.

It looks nice to have under cabinet lights all on at once and one switch may be more convenient than running around the room. But, if you want maximum energy effiency and just want task lighting for one spot at a time go with separate switches.

Some fixtures have small rocker switches on them which will let you have both.
