Ack, need quick help with kitchen lighting please!

X-posted in kitchen forum, hoping for a quick response.

Electrician was slotted for 2 more weeks, but we unexpectedly got bumped up the list to tomorrow. He is asking if we know how many dimmer switches we want, so he'll know how many to bring. Ack! I haven't thought this through yet. Can someone help me pretty please?:-)

We have 6 canned lights, 2 pendants above island, 1 pendant above sink, undercabinet lights, and a big chandelier in the eating area. I planned on the chandelier for sure being on a dimmer. Would it be a good idea to put anything else on a dimmer?

Also, are there any particular type of dimmer switches I should request?

Thanks so much!

This sounds like something you might just ask the electrician, since they know what the options are. You can tell him/her how many fixtures you have that you want to be able to dim, where they are, and ask whether more than one can be put on a single switch, if that's what you want, or whether a multi-gang (multiple switch) can be set up so that you can control many lights from one location.

As far as what to dim, I personally wouldn't dim under cabinet lights, mostly I'd focus on overhead and pendant lights.

Hope this helps!
