How Many Cans to Replace 4 48' flur. tubes

richard1234March 18, 2012

Hi,

My kitchen currently has a 50 inch square box in ceiling. Inside the box are 4 fluroscent tubes (48" inch long, 40 watts each). Plan is have the box and fluroscent tubes removed and to replace with either 4 or 6 cans. Inside the cans I would go with Home Depot 6" led disk light (Commercial Electric brand, 750 lumens each, model ced6).

If I go with 4 cans, I would have the four positioned where the four corners of the box are now. If I went with 6, I would extend the two lines of cans over a 6 foot distance (can, 3 feet space, can, 3 feet space can).

Has anyone done a similar conversion? Any recommendations between 4 vs. 6 cans?

Thanks for any input.

Richard

Yes. I've also written a short thread on led recessed cans.

The Cree CR6 is currently the best bang for the buck.

The CR4 (ECO4-575) has the same output as the CR6.
