recessed lights for new construction- please educate me

lexmomof3March 16, 2013

I don't know much about recessed lights other than we had them in our last house (15 yrs old). I'm assuming new technology has come out since then for better efficiency. We're using 6" except for a couple of places where we're highlighting artwork/pictures and using 4" ones there. Is there a particular type of recessed housing that I should ask for or is it all about the bulb in which case it doesn't matter? I do want the recessed lights in family room on a dimmer but the rest don't need to be. Thanks!

lexmomof3 - I second davidtay's link - I printed off that partiular thread and one other about "LED continued" and read them multiple times, highlighting as I went through. There is lots of good information and guidance in both threads - it just takes a while to absorb it.

I can't help you with the details, just wanted to tell you that you are smart to have them installed. My neighbor did that, she had at least 7 or more in her dining area and kitchen and in the living room. I wish I had done that. I hate exposed light bulbs.
