Mastic tape to seal the housing to the sheetrock?

janesylviaMarch 19, 2013

My contractor installed 12 CREE CR6 recessed lights. He did not seal the housing to the sheetrock. Is it necessary to do that with mastic tape?

Thank you very much.

Not really necessary, although some have put a bead of caulk around the circumference.
Assuming a title 24 style installation
The housing would typically be in direct contact with insulation (in CA).
The tape adhesive degrades over time anyway..
