Recessed can installed close to stud

jjaazzyFebruary 3, 2009

We installed a recessed 3" H36rtat line voltage can with 50 watt bulb and it is really close to the attic framing. They are rated no contact with insulation with in 3" but what about this framing? Can we put some kind of heat shield on the framing. Or should we just move the can. It is in a really tight area in the attic and hard to work up there.

As long as there is room to install the can, its proximity to a stud is not a problem. I am speaking as an electrician who has installed more cans than I can count.
