Serious Eats interview with Patty Erd, owner of The Spice House. Interesting, with the bonus of a great Julia Child story.

Been there! Thanks to Peppi.
I thought this was interesting too Penzey's is actually my brother's company.
Yeah, I knew she was the "Penzey's" sister. I've been there too, although Sherry and I had already left by the time Peppi and Cathy made it to the Spice House.
I took Rob there, and bought some Vulcan Fire for Elery for his popcorn.
What a neat story. I didn't realize there was such a close association with Penzeys. I purchase from both places and my Spice House favorites are Tomato Powder, Cheddar Cheese Powder, Pure Vanilla Powder, and Bridgeport Seasoning. -Grainlady
Interesting article, thanks. I didn't realize there was a family connection between The Spice House & Penzey's. I use Penzey's because they have a store in west Hartford, CT. I'll browse around The Spice House site & see if anything looks interesting/different for summer grilling season.
Funny store about Julia.
Been there and Annie bought me some ginger chips. It was an amazing place. So many great looking and smelling spices! In Chicago, there is a store a couple of doors down is Old Town Oil. Also amazing. Isn't it also a "sister owned" (some relative) store?
