HVAC Geothermal New construction

NewHouse1313December 22, 2012

I am building a new house at 2813 sq ft with unfinished basement of 1300sq ft but want to be ready to finish basement in 1 year so want it to be heated and cooled. I am considering a Waterfurnace 5 series with hot water assist and vertical closed loop system. After the J load was calculated, A 5 ton system with 2 zones was proposed. How much more should this geothermal system be when compared to a Carrier 16 SEER electric heat pump system?

I assume you do not have access to natural gas. It would be the most cost effective option.

I am not the geothermal expert, but I can tell you the installation costs vary greatly around the US.

I suggest you also look at the Carrier Greenspeed heat pump. It is more expensive than the traditional heat pump but will still be significantly cheaper than a geothermal installation.
