Building a base cab with pullout cutting board

donaleenJanuary 7, 2013

My DH is building the sink area base cabinets now. Three of the base cabinets will have pullout cutting boards. Since many of you ask questions about these, I am posting some construction photos and info about how we are doing ours.

Two of the cutting boards will be about 18 inches wide, the third will be about 24" wide... I selected the widths based on how I want them to look with the cabinet and drawers in addition to how they will work. All three will be completely removable for cleaning. They sit/ride in two U-shaped channels on the sides of the cabinet. You can see those at the top of the photo.

The cabinet will have three drawers below the pullout; you can see the wooden strips on the sides which will solidly support the drawer slides. Our cabinets do have face frames, so the padding shows what we lose in horizontal space due to the face frame.

So, anyway, this is how mr 64th of an inch/ built like a brick shithouse does it...
