White Rogers instead of Comfortnet ??

I have recently had a new Goodman GMVM96 heater installed using my original thermostat. I am interested in adding a communicating thermostat in order to make use of the modulating gas valve and humidity control features. This is my dealers first 96% installation, he has it working fine, and feels that a new thermostat is a waste of money.

The White Rogers web site says that they supply this equipment to Goodman (and Rheem). There is a WR retro kit, # 1F98EZ-1421 available for $220 that includes both a thermostat and a control board to be mounted on the heater. The WR pictures and specs look identical to the Goodman components.

Do you think that I could purchase this kit, mount the thermostat and connect it to my excising control board in the Goodman Heater ???

I would then keep the 2nd board as a spare.

Thank you,

If it's not broke don't fix it. But if you insist be prepared for problems.
