Miller Furnace / Miller Burner not firing

liamfmNovember 29, 2009

Hi,

Winter's coming and I'd love to be able to use the miller furnace that was left in my garage by the PO. He said he used the furnace all the time to take the chill off in the garage. I can't get it to run though and need some basic troubleshooting.

The Furnace is a Miller. The burner is a miller model FM-LS.

I have put the feed line into a can of Kero and flipped the switch he wired on the wall. The burner turns on. I can bleed the system using a 1/8" hex screw inside the bleeder screw. I can get a very good stream of kero out of the bleed screw with no air bubbles.

The burner fan spins (I took off the hinged ignitor cover and can see the burner fan spinning).

I can't get it to fire. It runs for about 30 seconds then shuts itself off. The reset button is the only way to kick it back on, but again it won't fire.

I guess I'm wondering where to go from here. Test the ignition system?

I'm a handy person, but this is my first time dealing with a furnace burner.

Thanks,

Liam

First of all don't keep pushing that reset button, because it might be pumping oil in the fire box. If you have hit the reset more than two times, you should now take the hole burner
out of the furnace and see if it has a lot of oil in the fire box. If there is you need to get it out of there. You could have a plugged nozzle, bad transformer, cracked electrodes, and too much dirt in there Do you have the paper work that shows how the electrodes are to be set?? paulbm
