favorite yellows and golds here

mitchdesjNovember 5, 2005

Just trying out an information thread here so all yellows and golds can be grouped together; whoever wants to contribute can post their picture with brand and name, this could be a reference thread, no need to add comments in between posts.......

I have this gold tone on all walls and ceiings of my main floor; it's a canadian paint brand so not much use here, ( peanut by Sico) and it was brushed on with strokes of white here and there, I have a plaster finish on my walls............................

I'll be looking for a lighter tone soon......

Sherwin Williams "Jersey Cream" in a very, very low light room. (I was shooting for something close to SW Blond, which came out too dark in that low light room.) Photos are before room was completely finished, and paint does show a little more golden or a little more tan, depending on lighting.

kitty picture is Walmart Colorplace Semi-Gloss "Brazen Gold". I love the color, I will never use their paint again. It splattered horribly when rolled on, the paint stuck better to the roller than to the wall, overall not a good experience.

living room is painted in Behr Premium Satin "Calm Air". Love the color, absolutely love the paint. Easy to apply, one coat coverage, great experience using this paint. This color is very hard to really get a good picture of though. The color changes a lot during the course of the day. Depending on lighting, the color varies from a creamy french vanilla to a golden yellow.

My bedroom is in Laura Ashley Gold #3..........a wonderful color in the daytime, much more intense at night. Here is a link to a couple of pictures, but it's really hard to get the color right on the monitor. As you can see, in some lighting situations it looks much more gold than in others.
In the photo below, it is the closest to the real shade on my monitor.

SW Sequin (in living room with fireplace) and SW Convivial Yellow (stairwell and family room). Beautiful soft golds with more yellow than tan. Although they look very similar here, in person, the Sequin is a bit deeper/richer and the Convivial Yellow a bit softer. They're adjacent colors on the same swatch.

gardenchick1, I think I went through your home on a tour when I was visiting a friend - it was stunning (and probably our favorite on the tour)...if i remember correctly, you had a bedroom painted in a beautiful shade of brown and a powder room in a dark copper color and a master bathroom in a great taupe - do you happen to remember what the name of those colors were? Also is your foyer/living room the same color as your family room/kitchen?

Thank you so much for this thread. I have been trying very hard to find a good match for yellow for my kitchen & family room (which blend together).

Question - I put on the Shelburne buff today and it does not look yellow (as in your picture but I also know I'm on the internet and colors look different). It is more of a brown shade in my opinion but I do like it. It actually matches one of the stripes in my family room chairs indentical. I have a blue jean color sofa & the chairs are striped with red, white, blue, yellow & a small strip of this brown. We just put up shadow boxes, chair rail and crown molding that I painted in a nice white. I'm wanting the walls to accent off the wood work.

I've tried so many colors and my contractor is dying of laughter at how many strips of paint I have on the wall. I tried the BM Barley but that is just too pale. I really thought I wanted a Tuscany color yellow and boy is it really overpowering in my rooms. I had to take another turn so I thank you all so much for starting this thread. It has helped me out so much!

Thanks to everyone's suggestions and pictures with the yellow. One year ago I painted my kitchen with BM's Squish Squash. I wanted a cheery color to try to raise my husband's spirits. I liked the color on the paint chip as well as in the can but it was obnoxious on my very large kitchen walls.

I really wanted a buttery creamy yellow so this past weekend my daughter and I repainted based on "MoonShadow's" suggestion and went with SW's Jersey Cream. I would have never chosen this color in the store from the paint chip. I actually took the chip to Wal-Mart and had them color match it. I chose Kilz's Eggshell finish because I've used their paint before. I love the truly one coat coverage and it's scrubbability. The concocted "Jersey Cream" color was perfect and exactly what I was looking for. Not too tannish, not to yellow. It reminds me of a newly opened tub of butter.

This is Olympic Evening Glow. Let me tell you.....when I got the painting done and stood back and looked, it scared me. I kept trying to picture it with the cabinets, but all I could see was this blinding yellow, screaming at me. I had resigned myself that I was just going to learn to love it, even though I was pretty unsure about it. Saturday we put our cabinets in though, and now I really DO love it!! Its still bright, but since the cabs are so dark and rich it's just perfect now.

I rally like your color Kmcg!
I know you said it was tobacco road, you also said it was laura ashley gold 3. I have a swatch of that paint in my hand right now. Which part of your room is Laura Ashley gold 3? Did you incorporate both colors in the room?
I'm desperately trying to find a color. I had pretty much my whole main floor gutted, an old house. I've had a deep yellow before on the walls. I seem to be drawn to yellow but I don't want it sooo yellow. I'm just wondering how it is on the walls. This Ashley gold 3 looks like it has more brown to it, which I want.
How would this color look with medium toned oak 5" floors....do you think.

Thanks for any information!

I've heard a lot of positive threads on SW Blond- however when I painted a sample on an index card- it looks very green. It doesn't look like that in the pics- for those who use SW Blonde- does it look greenish at times?

Try Dijon...I have it in my kitchen and living room and it is the most wonderful color. Close to Blonde with alittle more intensity...no green at all.

My small bathroom is Philadelphia Cream. I loathed it at first, but I'm okay with it now. It's just a bathroom. ;-)

I'd wanted a French vanilla color and it is much more yellow than I'd wanted. In certain light (morning), it has a pleasant creaminess, but at night, it's YELLOW. I wouldn't use it again.

Benjamin Moore Philadelphia Cream. A lovely, creamy yellow during the day, but it gets a bit too lemony for me at night. I plan to paint over it soon.

Here's my first attempt at posting pictures. The color is Pismo Dune from Behr. Looks nothing like the paint chip, but it's the exact color of yellow that I wanted.

I have been oohing and ahhing most of the day at the pictures and colors here. Yellow is my favorite color. I recently updated my bathrooms. I cannot afford a remodel. I am on a strict and limited budget but I love how they turned out. Here are a couple of pictures of my tiny, yellow guest bathroom.

I have finally found the best yellow paint. After days and days of buying sample pots from Benjamin moore I was going to choose Golden Honey which I highly recommended, but then I heard about Restoration Hardware paint in Butter. I went to the store to get a sample and this is it!!! finally a paint thats deep enough to be yellow but without the school bus cheese color and without being so pastel that it belongs in a nursery. Its the perfect balance of color. I love it. Will post pictures as soon as I get the gallons and have the professional painter come in.

Some reviews on BM Paint for those who are stuck and are like me looking for an old world classic yellow with no undertones.

Sweet Butter: Very nice tone but a bit darker than it shows on the swatch. Really nice for a kitchen or bath but I wouldn't paint my entire living room and foyer with it.

Country Comfort: Very close to Golden Honey but with more orange in it. If you don't mind a color that has a bit more orange in it, then its a great yellow. (Good for smaller spaces)

Honey Wheat: Much more orange than I expected I would have regret painting my entire living room in it as I didn't expect it to come out as dark. (Good for smaller spaces)

Golden Honey: A beautiful yellow that I would definitely use for a large space as it is a classic golden yellow and beautiful. Its light but not pastel and not orange it has a neutral brown undertone so it shows the same in daylight and night beautiful. I'd put photos of the swatches but don't know how to upload.

Hi, I'm new here but absolutely love this forum. Everyone is so helpful. I have a question: I'm considering SW White Raisin for most of my downstairs living area (LR, DR, FR, Kit..). I want a nice golden yellow (not tan). Can someone posts pics of White Raisin if they've used it? I went to the Sherwin Williams store and they no longer stock the sample chip of this color.

Other colors I'm considering are:
SW Restrained Gold
BM Chestertown Buff

My favorite yellow is one I've used in two (soon three) kitchens, a study (sponged over white), and a lap sided enclosed back porch. Oh, and two bedrooms. Different houses.

It is Behr's THREADED GOLD in latex enamel, either flat (in the study), or semi gloss (in the kitchens) It is a very soft and earthy yellow ochre color.

Here is Valspar, Pale Gold 2 by Laura Ashley. Nothing on the walls yet and much more yellow than I expected but others have called it "Off white" or "Butter Cream" when they are in my house. I don't see that though.

Here's a pic of my kitchen done in BM Straw Hat. It took a few trials, but this works with the brown/gold/black granite, black slate floor, and glazed biscotti cabinets. Still need new window treatments.

So glad I found this thread, gold is so hard. :(

I've used BM Ivorie and Blonde in past projects and always found them a bit yellow. I just did my bedroom, don't remember the color but looked gorgeous on the card, and it's too orange on the walls. My boyfriend's house has three different golds and I hate all 3 - not in his house necessarily, but not what I want. One is yellow, one is orange and the other, well, I don't know, just don't like it.

I am on a tight budget and really don't have extra $$ to waste on a dozen sample pots, though if I can narrow it down to just 2 or 3 I'm sure it's worth that route rather than hating the color.

Restrained Gold is lovely, but in my previous home I chose Fairmont Suite Gold over it (Lowes brand). Loved the color there, and it was with the same odd color leather sofa I am still using, but it was a huge house, very open with lots of light. The townhouse I'm getting ready to paint and move to is very small, no natural light, ugh. I really need lighter, but still gold without going yellow.

Which of your GOLDS would you recommend that are on the lighter side without looking yellow or peachy?
