Open Cell Foam and Roof Leak

foodeefishOctober 17, 2011

We had Open cell Spray Foam insulation blown into our new home. Now we have a leaf in the roof and it's coming from the Roof, through the foam insulation, onto the ceiling in the 3 season porch, and then onto the tile floor.

If Open Cell insulation gets wet in an attic, will it absorb the moisture and does it need to be ripped out?

Once they fix the roof, what should I have the builder do so I know the insulation is fine?

Thank you for reporting this comment. Undo

the open cell allows the moisture to pass through
once the leak is stopped the insulation will dry.

builder should replace any insulation removed.
same insulation type, same depth of inches and same air

water runs down..its a gravity thing, the leak is prolly
higher up on the roof, running down and exiting at a low point.

best of luck

best of luck.
