Top Loader for Second Floor Laundry Closet

chrstnamarieMay 23, 2013

We (family of 4) are purchasing a new home, so we are in need of a washer and electric dryer. It will be located on the second floor in a laundry closet in the hallway. We are well and septic too if that matters :)

At first I was looking at the LG 4.7 cu. ft. Ultra Large Capacity High-Efficiency Top Load Washer w/ WaveForce⢠- White (Model# WT5170HW). I went to Sears to take a look at it and the salesman said that the Kenmore one was made by LG, so I started looking at that one too. I went home to do more research last night and found everyone talking about the Speed Queen machines. Going that route though also brings me to Kenmore's 21252 TL.

So, my question is what would be best for me. I have a Whirlpool Duet FL now which we have had for 6+ years with no issues, except for the recent smell and dinginess of clothing (coinciding with me stopping my use of bleach). Making me lean away from FL. I also read somewhere that FL are not recommended for second floor laundry.

Any advice or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

TIA!

Thought I'd mention I do not need all the bells and whistle's...just get my clothes good and clean and don't have any issues. I'd also like to still be able to wash my king size comforter like I do in my current Duet.

I love my Speed Queen traditional top loader, but I wouldn't advise attempting to wash a king size comforter in it.

I also wouldn't advise using a single item that gets washed only occasionally as the first or primary criteria for choosing a washing machine.

Smell and dinginess are not common characteristics of front loaders. Like all other products, some are better designed than others.
