armstrong brand

paulsmAugust 1, 2011

We have a armstrong brand installed in our unit. Where does this brand place in a three tier classification.

I found a forum where all the major brands were rated. Armstrong was not held in very high esteem. Should I place any value in that particular rating.

Does anyone have a brief listing of the major brands in a three tier classification.

Depends on what mdl and type of equipment you are speaking of.

At best mid tier but could be low tier.

All brands/models have what is called bottom end/builder grade equipment which one generally finds in spec type new construction and those homeowners that are looking for HVAC for a cheap price.

You will get other opinions but I am not a fan of Armstrong.

As far as top tier, you are taking about Carrier/Bryant, Trane/AmStd, and some would include Lennox which BTW is part of the same company that owns Armstrong.

Mid tier you would get a lot of disagreement.

Low tier, no fan of Goodman or Payne. Here again, you will probably see other opinions .

I found this info on a label on my system.

Packaged furnace - gas, a/c
Direct vent forced air unit with cooling unit Type msp
Cooling 970 seer

Does this tell me more about the quality of my system.
Do I now call this system a HVAC unit
I assume that there is no heat pump involved in this unit.
