heat pump thermostat

Have a Heat Pump thermostat that I would like to use on a central air conditioning system (uses resistance heat....not heat pump). Can I use this t-stat on such system?

Yes, normally. There will be extra connections that you do not need.

Is it programmable? Depending on the model it might be possible to access a setup menu and change it to non-heatpump mode.
