New AC question

billfoJuly 17, 2012

My 21 yr old outside Trane unit needs over $ 800 in repairs. Selling home in 2 years. Dont want a big investment here.

1) when replacing the outside unit, do they need to replace the indoor part that connects to the 8 yr old furnace ?

2) Can I save alot getting a unit with the old refrigerant or is the new refrigerant needed now.

thanks for the info.

1.yes evap coil should match outside condenser

2.I would go with a new matching system with the new refrigerant, a good basic 13 SEER system.

If going to new refrigerant which I do recommend, existing lineset should be checked out both for correct size and condition since it will be flushed according to SOP and reused.

Since your furnace is only 8 years old it makes sense to try to match the coil and condenser to the furnace. This will make it more attractive to a buyer when are selling in two years.
