We need a longer gas hose. Ours is about 4 feet, and we need about twice that.
Is it OK to connect another of the 4 ft. hoses, or should the old one be replaced with a longer hose?
hose is cheap. get a longer one
OK, I asked the appliance dealer (planning to buy washer from) about cost. He wants $169 to have a gas technician come with the washer installers, remove the old hose and install a new one. Plus $30 for the hose itself.
I thought the labor would be about half that amount. What do you think?
oops, I misread your OP. I thought we were talking about a VENT hose. that's what I get for reading too fast. in any event, plumbers aren't cheap, nor is anyone else who makes house calls. Best to have a qualified tech do the installation...
I'm glad I checked. Our propane dealer will do it for $50 plus the hose. Quite a difference!
yeah, it pays to get several quotes. I got better windows installed for $3000 LESS just by getting 2 quotes on window replacements. And years ago, after getting 3 quotes for over $6K for repiping, I got it done by a licensed guy who did a great job---for half the price. go figure.
