Lennox vs. Trane 13 seer unit...opinions please

joereichJune 9, 2011

Ok so I've narrowed down my replacement a/c system to the following:

Lennox XC13-042 3.5 ton with Lennox 4 ton coil - $4550

Trane XR13 (3042D) 3.5 ton with Trane 4 ton coil - $5,450

Trane XB13 (3042A) 3.5 ton with Trane 4 ton coil - $4,750

The Lennox has a 10 year warranty. The Trane XR I believe has a 10 year warrany. The Trane XB is either 5 or 8...not sure. Both are reputable installers and authorized dealers.

What are your thoughts on Trane vs. Lennox? Which would be the cost effective option in the long run?

as long as the evap coil is a Lennox(not a third party) and you get the 10 yr warranty parts and compressor, then go with the Lennox XC13. I would not pay $1K additional for the Trane XR13.

Additional info. The furnace is fine. It's a single stage 80,000 btu Trane.
So no issues mixing and matching brands?
Is the XR worth $700 more than the XB?
Based on past data, which is more likely to fail quicker?
Based on my reading, I am a bit shy on the Lennox due to reviews...but should I be?

Yes, its' a Lennox coil
Yes, the Lennox has a 10 year compressor warranty. 5 years on parts but it becomes 10 after you register the unit with Lennox. They will extend the warranty to 12 years parts AND labor for another $550. I might ask they throw that in for free. Probably worth it.

Ok, thanks. So I shouldn't be concerned with the Lennox unit.
